Racism

Welcome Winter Sunset

Racism is when one race discriminates against another race based on one's nationality. Racism was and still is present. Many people see other people discriminating other races and they don't do anything about it; everyone just keeps quiet.

I chose racism for my topic for my video project because racism is still a big issue. Many people believe that racism isn't as big a deal as it was when the black people were slaves, and that may be true; it's not as bad as it used to be, but it is still happening and it will always be a big deal. Most people only see racism as white people against black people, but it goes further than that. There are still people that are Asian, Hispanic, and a lot of other races in the world being descriminated against. Racism happens in so many ways: It can be skin color, religion, status, or even people with deformities, believe it or not. Racism is the ultimate evil in the world because it is the main reason for wars, hatred, and all the killings in today's world. I chose this topic because racism is the one thing that has to be stopped once and for all.

                                          Movie Script

At the beginning of the movie, it begins with a poem called Peace, by Bethany Harris. I, Nichole, read the poem as pictures representing the poem show(music is playing through the whole movie). Next, there are pictures of students of different races at Clovis East High School with just the music playing. After that, there will be the question, "What does racism mean to you?" and then there will be Clovis East students saying one word that they believe describes racism. After they say the word, that word will appear in writing across the screen. Then, the question, "How do you think racism should be stopped and why?" will appear across the screen, then the students will answer it. Next, there will be the closing poem, Racism is so Not Cool," by Aimen Maksoud and Jamie McLoughlin, with reprsentative pictures. After the poem is finished, there will be a picture of some students of different races and they are going to shout, "Stop racism!" with no movement in the picture. Finally, there will be a sign that says, "Stop Racism Now," and then fades out as the music fades out.

                                            Final Script

In my final video that I have created, all I used was pictures and a video capture with no audio. It begins with music from the Titanic and then I come in and talk a little about racism and then I read a poem called Peace, by Bethany Harris. music plays with just pictures going by, and then I describe racism in a few words, then only music plays again with pictures and video. Finally the movie ends with another poem called Racism is So Not Cool, by Aimen Maskoud and Jamie McLoughlin. Then music plats and ends with credits.

A view of mine of the world today:

There have been many black Americans in Black History, that have made a huge difference in the world that we live in today. Yes, racism does still exist today, however, it is not as bad or as cruel as it was way back when. Some white people have made a difference in the racist world as well. These people took a stand to make a difference for the world and peoples' lives, we should still make a difference for someone discriminated against today. We may not go down in history, but we would've still made a difference.

After some of my research on racism, I have a some-what understanding why people are racist and how they see people who don't exactly look like them. Most people that are racist usually grew up in a racist home, where they were taught to hate anyone who wasn't their skin color, religion, or naturally born like them. There's also another reason: people just can't stand people that don't look like them and they just fill up with hatred because the other races have the same rights as everyone else. Even though these are some understandings of why people are racist, they aren't good-enough reasons. There will never be a good enough reason to be a racist. We are all the same; we all have the same blood, same feelings, same features: two eyes, two ears, one nose, one mouth, all the same body parts(same gender). The only natural phisical thing that is different between every human-being is skin color, and if that's what people can't stand about anyone else, then that totally dismisses the meaning of this country: freedom. Freedom of hatred, discrimination, and to have a life where everyone is as equal as everyone else.

QUOTE:

"Sometimes change comes not in the first round, but at the second, third or fourth. Change starts with one person questioning, challenging, speaking up and doing something to make a difference. We can each make a difference…because each of us is already part of the community where racism exists & thrives."
